There’s more to it than just luck . . .
Good Fortune Daughters is the true story of Huguette Lafortune, a daring, inquisitive farm girl who is one of seven daughters born to a renaissance gentleman farmer and his wife in French Quebec during the 1930s and 1940s.
Strangle an abusive rooster, fly off a bucking cow, hunt wolf farts in a sugar forest and crash while dogsled racing! The young Lafortune women embark on these and other wild and humorous adventures with the fondness and devotion known only to sisters.
Against the backdrop of World War II, they also endure their share of hardships. Huguette nearly dies from a mysterious fever. She fears her Grandmother has been poisoned to death. And she finally discovers why her mother is so reserved, showing little affection.
These and other smaller tragedies culminate in a final devastating loss that takes with it much of what they treasure and hold dear, including their farm and the only way of life they have ever known. Through it all, a mysterious butterfly leaves an invisible trail of strength and compassion for them to follow.
Despite everything, the Lafortune family never stops their quiet rebellion against backward church rules, female stereotypes and prejudice, showing how small acts can bring big changes.
The story unfolds through three intertwined threads: the voice of a daring farm girl, intimate conversations between a woman and her dying husband and, finally, the spirit of a dead boy.

Your story is truly breathtaking! I’ve smiled, laughed and shed more than a few tears for Huguette, her dear parents and the incredible circle of Lafortune sisters. – Ann Bevans, Writer
